Sibca, the unmissable trade fair for the low-carbon property sector

For the second time, the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) is marked by Sibca, which is expecting 150 exhibitors, 8,000 visitors and a programme of over 100 Major Debates and Seminars.

All day Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 and the morning of Friday 22 September will be devoted to meetings with decision-makers in low-carbon property development. The afternoon of Friday 22 September will be devoted to recruiting new talent.

Sibca, a trade fair organised by France Conventions and the BBCA association, is a discussion forum where stakeholders from the low-carbon property sector meet, under the High Patronage of Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic and under the Patronage of Jean Jouzel, Climatologist and Glaciologist, the former Vice-Chair of the IPCC.

At Sibca, the spotlight will be on low-carbon solutions for designing, building and renovating tomorrow’s major urban projects and buildings.

Find GA Smart Building’s low-carbon solutions at stand F4 at Sibca 2023

Innovation is part of our DNA, with an R&D department that has been up and running for over 30 years with an annual spend of €3 million, and our teams will be delighted to present some of our low-carbon solutions to you.

An exploded view of a timber-framed floor and wall

We have an exposed a wooden frame floor and wall to present how the module is made in the most effective way!

The floor consists of a timber-framed floor box with fibreglass insulation. A vapour barrier then ensures that the module is airtight, then a 22 mm MFP panel provides bracing and acts as a support for the flexible floor.

As for the wall, it is made up of a cladding panel, a double lining to ensure that the rear face of the cladding is ventilated, a rain screen, a 12mm MFP panel for bracing and a timber frame incorporating wood wool. The displayed module comes with an interior coating in BA13 plasterboard, but it can accommodate any type of coating.

Atom Wood, an innovative off-site mixed wood and concrete floor

This coffee table is the only one of its kind in the world, and has been made using our Atom Wood process, scaled down to half its normal size – its usual dimensions are 2.70m wide and up to 13m long!

Atom Wood is an off-site mixed wood and concrete floor consisting of laminated-bonded wood beams and a thin concrete slab with low carbon CEM III. It is distinguished by its low carbon emissions, which are particularly in demand in the context of the new RE2020: it makes it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of our floors by a factor of 3. It is noted for its very strong fire resistance (REI 60).

Atom Wood has been awarded a “Coup de Coeur” (Special Mention) by the Low Carbon Influencers’ Hub run by the Institut Français pour la Performance du Bâtiment (French Institute for Building Performance (IFPEB)). It received a grant from the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) to develop it. It obtained the ATEx (Appréciation Technique d’Expérimentation) [Technical Experimental Assessment]) appraisal in April 2022.

Atom Wood off-site wood and concrete flooring is produced in our French PREGA factories in Criquebeuf-sur-Seine in Normandy, Labège near Toulouse and Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine, near Colmar. The wood comes from the French PEFC or FSC-certified timber industry.

Ultra-low carbon concrete does exist

Let’s restore concrete to its former glory by moving towards ultra-low carbon concrete.

It was a big ask. In the 2000s, conventional concrete CEM I emitted 310 kg CO2 Eq/M3. In the 2020s, CEM II low carbon concrete dropped to 270 kg CO2 Eq/M3. As of 2021, the CEM III version has further reduced the carbon footprint to 190 kg CO2 Eq/M3. And by 2024, the ultra-low carbon concrete we are currently formulating will fall to 100 kg CO2 Eq/M3.

For several years now, we have been conducting research in our three prefabrication plants to move towards low carbon concrete formulations, targeting a 20% to 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by using CEM III-type cements and blast furnace slag.

Recycled and recyclable plastic coating

Original, isn’t it? It was designed by Le Pavé® from post-industry or post-consumer plastic waste!

This eco-construction was designed to recycle waste from the construction sector. Once identified, crushed and processed, these form a thick, resistant plaque. It is a very easy material to work with and can be adapted for many uses. It is malleable and comes in a wide range of textures and finishes. We are thinking about integrating it into our future homes!

Hoping to see many of you there and we wish you an excellent Sibca!
